In February 2019, the Governor of the State of Victoria formally set up the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
The Commission’s interim report sets out nine recommendations for a new approach to mental health and wellbeing treatment, care and support. The Victorian Government has started implementing these recommendations.
The final report has 65 recommendations that will transform Victoria’s mental health and wellbeing system by making it more contemporary and adaptable.
These changes will:
Allow more focus on consumer care in community-based care, where people receive the treatment and support for their needs close to where they live.
Create a system that is easier to navigate, with clear pathways to timely and appropriate support for consumers and their families, carers and supporters.
Improve upon an integrated and responsive health system that works collaboratively with the community to deliver accessible, responsive and adaptable mental health services.
