The Simulation Centre is located on Level 2 in the Western Centre of Health Research and Education provides a realistic clinical environment for health care professional to safely practice skills required for the clinical environment in which they operate. Simulation training focuses on patient-centred care and provides educational opportunities with an emphasis on communication, leadership and teamwork and interprofessional collaboration.
The Clinical Skills Centre has a wide range of simulation equipment available, from high fidelity simulation mannequins to part tasks trainers such as IV cannulation arms, a range of intubation models and laparoscopic training boxes. A broad range of simulation mannequins are available from adults, a birthing simulator and paediatric and neonatal mannequins.
The Simulation Centre offers a flexible learning environment which enables us to provide basic training such as manual handling and Basic Life Support all the way to critical care scenarios and accredited multi-day skills courses for students, graduate health care professionals and experienced practitioners. With facilities to stream live video, participants can debrief with their peers and facilitators and reflect on their practice, to gain a higher level of insight into the importance of communication, Crisis Resource Management (CRM), decision-making and teamwork during emergency situations.
CSL1 (4 bed ward)
Setup as a 4 bed ward, this room offers wall mounted gas outlets for all 4 fully adjustable beds, a drug safe, sinks, clinical equipment areas and a fully equipped en-suite bathroom both with lifting hoists. The room has a fixed projector and desktop computer for presentations and can also be used for debriefing .
CSL3 (Part Task)
Specifically designed for skills training with part task trainers (PTT), this room provides a flexible learning environment comprising moveable desks and chairs, fixed projector with desktop computer and video conferencing capability. This rooms also functions as a debrief room.
CSL4 (Operating Room)
This high fidelity room has been designed with advanced clinical training in mind, such as anaesthesia and surgery. It has an adjoining control room with one-way mirror and comprises a pendant gas arm, theatre lights, multiple wall mounted gas outlets and a storage bay.
CSL5 (Critical Care)
This high fidelity room has been designed to simulate an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Emergency Department (ED) cubicle or Birthing Room. It has an adjoining control room with one-way mirror and can be setup either with a combination of mannequins with ample space for a resuscitaire, catering for neonatal or maternity scenarios.
