Western Health respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung Elders and people of the Kulin nation as Traditional Owners of the lands on which Western Health sites are located.
The term "Aboriginal" is used to refer to all Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is inclusive of people in Victoria who identify as Indigenous Australians, Koori and Koorie.
Western Health is committed to providing culturally safe and appropriate health services to our Aboriginal community. Reflecting the diverse cultural community we serve, we are committed to developing a strong and supportive environment for our Aboriginal workforce, recognising the importance of diversity and the value that brings to our workplace.
Western Health's vision of "together, caring for the west" involves creating partnerships with our local communities. A diverse workforce, which reflects our community, ensures that Western Health is more responsive to and capable of providing culturally appropriate care to our local community.
In supporting government initiatives, Western Health has developed an Aboriginal Employment Plan that promotes employment strategies and initiatives to grow our Aboriginal workforce. We aim to provide an environment, which is supportive and encouraging for new, existing and future employees.
