The Asia, Australia and New Zealand Dyspnoea in Emergency
Departments study (AANZDEM) is a multi-site, multinational study exploring the
epidemiology, treatment and outcome of adult patients who come to the emergency
department with the symptom of shortness of breath (dyspnoea). This is an unusual perspective as most
research is done from the perspective of diagnoses rather than symptoms.
More than 40 hospitals across Australia, New Zealand,
Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong are contributing data for three, 3-day
snapshots of time aligned with the seasons of autumn, winter and spring.
The data will allow us to better understand the causes of
shortness of breath, explore seasonal and regional variations in diagnoses and
admission rates and to compare treatment with guideline recommendations.
