Program Outline:
Western Health offers placement model (full time or part time) and employment model (Subject to Government funding) for students studying Graduate Diploma of Midwifery
Full time - 6 days a fortnight as a student across all areas of Maternity (not employed/paid)
Part time - 3 days a fortnight as a student across all areas of Maternity (not employed/paid)
Paid Employment Model - six days per fortnight employed as a Registered Nurse in the Postnatal Unit and paid clinical placement. (2025 employment model yet to be confirmed)
Students will be rostered across all shifts, 7 days a week.
Places are subject to acceptance from University offering Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.
Paid roles are subject to Government funding approval
Western Health and Department of Health Post Graduate scholarships maybe available on application.
Full time - commencing March each year for a period of 52 weeks.
Part time - commencing March each year for a period of 104 weeks.
Allocated as per requirements set by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and the relevant university and include:
Rotations in birth suite, maternity assessment centre, prenatal, postnatal, neonatal services and domiciliary.
All student shifts will be in a supernumerary capacity in all clinical areas.
Hospital and program orientation
Unit specific orientation
In house educators and Clinical Support Midwives provide daily support, guidance and mentoring
Please contact the relevant university regarding the theoretical component as the structure varies between blocks around clinical placements and concurrent theory time. All assignments and exams are also set by each university.
Competency and clinical skill assessments will be completed by our Clinical Support Midwives and/or educators throughout the year.
