Course Name:
Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care (BASIC)
Aim of Program:
To provide HMOs and Registrars the basic skills and knowledge necessary to assess, support and manage the care of critically ill patients. This course is recommended by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and is facilitated by a team of ICU consultants from Western Health.
Program Outline:
Two days of Lectures and Skill Stations covering:
Acid Base Disturbances
Airway Management
CPR
Haemodynamic Monitoring
Mechanical Ventilation
Patient Transport
Respiratory Failure
Severe Sepsis
Shock
Program Eligibility:
This course is recommended for Western Health Medical Employees and external participants. Western Health Junior staff must contact Medical Workforce Unit prior to registering to ensure they are able to be to attend.
Enrolment Max:
The program is limited to 36 participants.
Completion Requirements
To complete this course, you will need to:
Complete a pre-course online multiple choice quiz to guide preparation.
The course must be attended in its entirety, and continuous assessment occurs throughout the course based on workshops and face to face clinical skills stations.
A final assessment at the end of the course takes place in the form of an online MCQ.
