The Endocrinology & Diabetes Unit is based at Sunshine Hospital in the Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre. We are a member of the National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC) – a network of major diabetes centres around the country. Membership of NADC allows us to benchmark ourselves against other major diabetes centres. We participate in annual audits and national meetings to ensure our patients receive optimal care.
The Unit consists of a multi-disciplinary team of sessional adult endocrinologists, paediatric endocrinologists, advanced trainees, HMOs and Diabetes Nurse Educators (DNEs)
The Diabetes Foot Service (DFS)
Provides both inpatient and outpatient services for people with diabetes related foot complications with involvement from endocrinologists, vascular surgeons, infectious disease physicians, podiatrists, orthotists, prosthetists, rehabilitation specialists, and diabetes educators.

Inpatient services
Provided at Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital providing inpatient care for people with a variety of endocrine conditions, predominantly diabetic emergencies (e.g. diabetic ketoacidosis). An inpatient consultation service is also provided to Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals.
Outpatient services (specialist clinics)
Mainly based at Sunshine and cover the spectrum of diabetes and endocrine conditions:

Rapid Access Diabetes (twice a week)

Obstetric Endocrinology (5 clinics, one every weekday)

Insulin stabilisation (twice weekly)
Group gestational diabetes education (twice weekly)
Group gestational diabetes insulin initiation (twice weekly)
Individual gestational diabetes insulin initiation (twice weekly)
Diabetes Foot (weekly, based at Footscray Hospital)
Additionally a phone advice service to patients and doctors is offered by the endocrinology advanced trainees and DNEs.
Endocrinology Clinics (all based at Sunshine)
Outreach Clinics
Weekly community diabetes clinics are held at Footscray (Co Health), and Deer Park (ISIS). A weekly diabetes and endocrinology clinic is held at Melton. Additionally a fortnightly endocrinology clinic is held at Ballarat.
