This role is specifically for community members who have an understanding of the benefits of gardening and how it impacts on our day to day life. The Therapy Garden is attached to the Secure Gem Ward at Sunshine Hospital. The volunteer role is to maintain the garden with support from Bunnings and Western Health on-site staff, and also to engage with the patients and families from the Secure Gem Ward. The garden has been designed to support patients with dementia through the design and placement of specific plants and equipment within the garden. All equipment and training is supplied, with this exciting new role set to commence in late 2013. The role is also engaging with community groups within the local community such as Cairnlea Park Primary School & local gardening clubs.
