Cycling for a cause
Eleven intrepid cyclists recently completed the Otago Rail Trail across New Zealand's South Island to raise funds for Western Health.
The team of Western Health staff and supporters raised over $15,000 for patient care, while taking in the stunning views of New Zealand on the 150km ride.
These funds will support adolescent mental health projects, research and education projects for the Department of Anaesthesia, and resources to help in the prevention and management of postpartum haemorrhage.
"I was so pleased to have been involved in this challenge to raise money to make a difference for patient care at Western Health," 2018 Cycle Challenge participant Fiona Henderson said.
"This is the third cycle challenge I have participated in, and it was once again breathtaking.
"Thailand (in 2016) was beautiful, uphill and down dale; Cambodia (in 2017) was happy, hot and dusty; New Zealand was picturesque but wet, cold and windy! Who's up for a cycling adventure in Sri Lanka?"
Plans are already underway for next year's cycle challenge in Sri Lanka. More details will be released later in the year.
