A message to staff, volunteers, patients and their families
Respect and compassion are two of the core values of Western Health and the wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, patients and the broader community is of the utmost importance.
We are conscious that the current focus on the marriage equality debate is likely to be causing some concern. We would like to express our support for any member of the LGBTI community – or their family member - who is affected by this.
As an organisation, we have made a clear commitment to foster a warm and welcoming environment for all and this extends to the LGBTI community, which includes staff, volunteers, patients, families and partners.
Our commitment to equity and equality is evidenced by the actions set out in our 2017-2020 LGBTI Inclusion strategy. Over the past year we have participated in the Midsummer Pride March; undertaken consultations to understand the experience of our LGBTI staff and volunteers; highlighted the negative impact of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and reviewed our diversity and inclusion practices and policies.
