NICU's first birthday

It’s been a massive year for our NICU team.

Dr Clare Collins, Western Health’s Head of Neonatology, said she and Newborn Services Nurse Unit Manager Melissa Dodsworth felt “very privileged to be part of such a great team”.

“A project like this doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work and you have all shown that in spades.

“We have welcomed many new people to our team, all learnt new things and have embraced new ways of working. That in itself is a fantastic achievement, but to have done all this despite a global pandemic is truly awesome.”

Chief Executive Russell Harrison thanked the NICU team for delivering “a very, very special service for the community of the West”.

“Without the NICU, many of the babies and families you have supported would have had to travel long distances for this very specialised care.

“This would not have been possible without your hard work and commitment. I want to say a huge thank you for getting the service up and running and for developing it through the first year. You should all be rightly proud.”

It is a privilege to care for babies and families across the West - just like Hudson and Archer, who met Dan AndrewsJenny Mikakos MP and Natalie Suleyman MP last year and recently celebrated their first birthday, and current patients (twins) Violet and Ethan, pictured below with nurses Stephanie Dewhurst and Sam King. They are 32 days old today!
