Bright future assured for patient and community meals service

The Altona-based Community Chef commercial kitchen, which provides meals to hospital patients as well as elderly and vulnerable people across Melbourne, will soon become part of Western Health.

The move will enable Western Health to better support the health needs of patients in the west, through the supply of meals to patients at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s, and to maintain the vital provision of food for various in-home services across our communities.

As part of the transition, to be completed over the coming months, Western Health will work closely with Community Chef’s leadership team and kitchen staff to ensure there is a smooth transition for them, as well as the patients and customers they serve.

The move to Western Health will maintain the jobs of about 60 staff at the purpose-built production kitchen, which has already been supplying quality meals to Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s as a contractor.

This acquisition now paves the way for a continuation and broadening of what has been a positive and productive partnership between Western Health and an essential food production facility which has been supporting the Victorian community for nearly 10 years.
