Clinic Description
 

This clinic provides a rapid assessment (within 2 weeks) for patients with diabetes requiring specialist review.

Patients are reviewed in this clinic a maximum of 4 times. Patients are either discharged back to their GP for ongoing management or referred to the general diabetes clinic

Inclusion criteria

Patients requiring rapid (within 2 week) assessment by a specialist regarding diabetes complications.

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Complex Type 2 diabetes e.g:
  • diabetic complications
  • Type 2 diabetes on maximal oral agents, with suboptimal diabetes control
  • Steroid induced diabetes
  • Unstable diabetes (e.g. significant hypoglycaemia, marked swings in glucose levels) 
Exclusion criteria

Patients with:

  • Gestational diabetes (patients will managed as part of obstetric care through the Obstetric Endocrinology clinic)
  • Diet controlled Type 2 diabetes
