WELCOME TO 62 NEW MEDICAL INTERNS

Western Health has welcomed the 2018 class of medical interns.

Our 62 new medical interns will spend the first year of their careers in rotations across Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown hospitals.

The interns were formally welcomed by Chief Executive Russell Harrison and Director of Medical Education A/Prof Stephen Lew, as well as acting and incoming Chief Medical Officers Dr Bernard Street and Dr Paul Eleftheriou, on Monday, beginning their week of orientation.

And from next week, they will begin work on the wards.

Dr Sean Fabri, Supervisor of Intern Training, said Western Health offered a wide variety of rotation options for the interns. In addition to compulsory rotations in medical, surgical and emergency departments, the interns have options in specialties as broad as psychiatry, anaesthetics, radiology, plastics, infectious diseases, orthopaedics and cardiology.

"We are priding ourselves on giving our interns a really good grounding for their future career choices," Dr Fabri said.
