Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s has welcomed the last baby enrolled in Australia’s largest study into the cause of type 1 diabetes.
The ENDIA (Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity) study is looking into what contributes to the development of Type 1 Diabetes in early childhood.
Almost all of the 1500 ENDIA Study babies enrolled across Australia have been born, but the study will continue for many years as they follow these babies through their childhood.
Type 1 Diabetes in children is twice as common as it was 20 years ago. If we can understand exactly what is harmful or protective in the environment, we can develop strategies to prevent Type 1 Diabetes.
