Western Health Research Week

2011  Research Week was a great success.

Western Healthfs annual Research Week was held on 7-11 November which gave an exciting overview of the extent and variety of research undertaken by Western Health researchers, along with our two main partners, The University of Melbourne and Victoria University.

On Monday 7 November, the Victorian Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon. David Davis, came to the Western Centre for Health Research and Education at Sunshine Hospital to officially launch Western Health Research Week, pledging the governmentfs support for ongoing research.

Vice Chancellor and President of Victoria University, Professor Peter Dawkins presented a thought provoking opening keynote address on the impact of research partnership to improve the health of Melbournefs West, highlighting the many significant projects already underway.

The Week featured a number of distinguished keynote addresses, research capacity build building workshops and presentations from WH researchers including medical and surgical registrars, allied health and nursing staff, showcasing their research projects. A full program and abstracts book can be downloaded from the Office for Research website.

A Public Lecture on Friday 11 November presented by Professor Terry Nolan on the pandemic of non]communicable diseases and the associated challenges for the healthcare system and community. This was followed by closing the 2011 Research Week with the award presentations.

There was a record number of research abstracts entered this year highlighting the vast amount of high quality of research occurring at Western Health. Sincere appreciation must be extended to the Research Week Committee for their time, support and contribution. Special thanks to all keynote speakers, abstract entrants, abstract reviewers, judges and admin staff from office for research and centre for education. Without your continued support Research Week 2011would not have been the success it was!
