Honours

Graduates studying honours are welcomed on the Graduate Nurse Program. Further study is welcomed and encouraged at Western Health. Assistance with rostering is provided.

Annual Leave

Two weeks of annual leave per rotation.

Criteria for Completion

  • Satisfactory clinical hours
  • Professional objectives for each rotation to be negotiated with preceptor (confidential, ungraded)
  • Satisfactory performance review for each rotation
  • Participation in Study Days and Graduation Seminar (ungraded)

NO EXAMS OR ESSAYS

A program certificate, stating duration of program and date of completion will be presented upon successful completion of the program.

 

Program Details

Program Aim

The Graduate Nurse Program aims to facilitate your transition from a novice nurse practitioner to a confident, competent registered nurse. During this program graduates are supported by the clinical expertise of her/his colleagues, graduate support nurses, clinical educators, preceptors, and graduate mentors. It is a structured program of paid study days and debriefing sessions that focus on clinical decision-making, patient management and professional practice.

Program Duration

53 weeks, rotating shifts including nights, public holidays and weekends.

Non Unit-Based Hours

  • Hospital Orientation - at commencement of program
  • Supernumerary Days - at commencement of each rotation
  • Eight Paid Study days - throughout the year
  • Regular debriefing sessions (timeouts)

September 2008

January 19th, May 4th and August 31st 2009

Award

Program certificate, stating duration of program and date of completion will be presented at the conclusion of the program.

Employment

One (1) year contract as RN Div 1, Grade 1, Year 1.
Part-time and full-time positions are available.
