With your support, we can assist the most vulnerable patients in our community
With an estimated 10% of patients at Western Health experiencing severe financial hardship, and as many as 10,000 patients a year struggling to meet their most basic needs, The Greatest Need provides practical support to patients in those early days or hours after discharge when they are most at risk of falling through short term gaps in care.
How your donation supports patients in need
Donations to The Greatest Need will support our most vulnerable patients in two ways:
By providing the basic necessities to help patients leave hospital and move forward with their lives. Support may include taxi and food vouchers, assistance with utility bills or rent, temporary post-discharge accommodation or specialised equipment to help patients recover at home. These are one-time gifts to help patients find their feet until they can get the ongoing support they need.
Supporting research through the Western Health Chronic Disease Alliance (WHCDA). Our aim is to break the cycle to poor health by tackling chronic illnesses such as diabetes, kidney andd heart disease, that impact on the health and wellbeing of those in our community.
The Greatest Need is 100% funded by donations from the community. Put simply, the more people who donate to The Greatest Need, the more people we can support.
Thanks to donor support, the Fund has been able to support over 700 patients since it commenced in October 2018. Our staff estimate that at present, we are only able to assist a fraction of those that could benefit from The Greatest Need Project.
