Specialist Clinics Redesign Project
In 2009-10, Western Health Outpatients is working to improve service delivery via the DHS funded Specialist Clinics Redesign Demonstration Project. The project aims to deliver system improvements by using a systematic approach to analyse and improve processes, and to reduce waste and increase efficiency and quality of care.
A detailed diagnostics phase in 2009 pointed us to four key target areas:
- Redesign the Inpatient Discharge Flow
- Maximise Use of IT Systems
- Redesign Clerical Work
- Improve Intra Clinic Flow
The project is working with three high volume clinics (Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics and Urology) to trial new ways of working. Our high level targets for 2009-10 include:
- 80% of patients (on average from all 3 clinics) will be seen within one hour of their given appointment time
- Positive patient experience feedback will increase
