The Division provides services across 3 major clinical programs Medicine, COGS (Centre of Oncology and Gastroenterology Services) and Aged Care and Rehabilitation Services. These services are provided at Western, Sunshine and Footscray campuses. The services are provided across acute and sub acute inpatient areas and ambulatory settings such as HITH and same day procedure/treatment units. The Division is responsible for providing 35% of the organisational acute activity and all of the sub acute inpatient services.
The programs include:-
Division of Medicine
This program provides acute inpatient, specialist outpatient and consultation services across all three campuses. The program provides general and specialty acute medical services to the Western Region and equates to approximately 25% of the acute activity profile for Western Health.
The specialities in the program include:-
- Dermatology
- Endocrinology and Diabetes
- Addiction Medicine - acute inpatient detoxification in conjunction with DASWest (Drug and Alcohol Services, Western Health)
- General Internal Medicine
- Immunology
- Infectious Diseases
- Nephrology (and acute haemodialysis in collaboration with North West Dialysis Service)
- Neurology (including Stroke Management and Epilepsy)
- Respiratory and Sleep Disorders (including Migrant Screening, Tuberculosis and Obesity Service)
- Rheumatology
Centre for Oncology and Gastroenterology Services
This service was established in 2003/04 as an initiative for the provision of clinical services and research for solid tumour oncology and gastroenterology. This program offers 2 main streams for gastroenterology and oncology/palliative care.
The specialties include:-

Gastroenterology - acute diagnostic and interventional procedures incorporating liver disease and chronic disorders.
Oncology and Palliative Care - diagnosis and treatment of solid tumours across inpatient, and ambulatory settings.
Palliative Care Consultation Service
Aged Care and Rehabilitation
The program provides acute and sub acute care across all three campuses incorporating inpatient, outpatient and consultative services. The program is only responsible for inpatient care however operates with a close interface with the Directorate of Community Integration and Allied Health for specialty community based services.
Services included in the program are:-
- Acute Aged Care, Aged Care Consultation Service,
Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Interim care and
Rehabilitation (inpatient) Services.
