Growing with the West - Capital Redevelopment Update

August 2010

Western Health is continuing its commitment to Melbourne's western suburbs by making long-term capital plans for future growth.
The West requires approaches to health care that are visionary, ambitious and enduring. These investments strengthen our ability to care for our growing communities and make important contributions to our social fabric.
2010 will be an important year for Western Health as our capital projects near completion, and the past month has seen us make significant progress.

With the internal fitout now underway, construction of the teaching, training and research centre is progressing well and completion is expected in December 2010.

The installation of the glass windows is complete, with the external curtain wall now being installed.

The state-of-the-art teaching, training and research centre will transform Sunshine Hospital into a major provider of education and training opportunities for current and future health care professionals.

The centre will play a pivotal role in researching diseases that affect our local communities, positioning Western Health as an area of excellence in academic and research fields.

The completion of ground slabs and structural columns sees the construction of Sunshine Hospital's radiotherapy facility on track for completion in November.

The services rough-in is nearing completion and the internal fitout is also progressing well. External cladding of the building has recently commenced, with construction of a linkway between the main hospital and the radiotherapy building expected to commence shortly.

The radiotherapy facility will become operational in February 2011. In conjunction with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, up to 900 patients per year will be treated in the western suburbs' first public radiotherapy service.

The construction of Sunbury Day Hospital remains on time with practical completion expected late this year.

With the roof now complete, work has commenced on the external cladding of the building. The renovation of Ardcloney House is also continuing.

When operational, the Sunbury Day Hospital will provide a range of health services never previously available to residents in their local community.
