Radiotherapy Facility at Sunshine Hospital
The opening of the Sunshine Hospital Radiation Therapy Centre in St Albans on the 10 March 2011 will enable around 900 people a year from Melbourne's western suburbs to receive their cancer treatment closer to home.
The new centre, a partnership between Western Health and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, provides, for the very first time, public radiation therapy services to the people of Melbourne's western suburbs.
A state-of-the-art radiation planning system and two linear accelerators will deliver treatment to patients with a range of cancers including those most commonly diagnosed in the western region; breast, bowel, prostate and lung. Read complete media release. (43KB)
Sunbury Day Hospital
Health Minister David Davis has officially opened the new Sunbury Day Hospital as part of a community day of celebrations.
Mr Davis said the $21.4 million day hospital had already been treating dialysis patients and was now treating others.
The new hospital on Macedon Street is operated by Western Health.
The facility provides medical and surgical procedures, including renal dialysis, chemotherapy, same-day procedures and specialist clinics.

Williamstown Dialysis Unit
Western Health has completed construction of the new dialysis unit at Williamstown Hospital, with the facility now operational. The expansion gives Williamstown Hospital a total of 14 dialysis treatment spaces, treating up to 56 patients.
Western Centre for Health Research and Education (Western CHRE)
With the internal fitout now underway, construction of the teaching, training and research centre is progressing well and completion is expected in early 2011.
The state-of-the-art teaching, training and research centre will transform Sunshine Hospital into a major provider of education and training opportunities for current and future health care professionals.
The centre will play a pivotal role in researching diseases that affect our local communities, positioning Western Health as an area of excellence in academic and research fields.

AcuteServices Building
The 4-level building will offer a range of services, including:
- 128 inpatient beds
- New outpatient clinic rooms
- 26 cot special care nursery
- 30 same day medical beds
- Diagnostic labs and clinical support offices.
Provide increased inpatient capacity and a wider range of acute health services.
Enables Western Health to establish a comprehensive health service in the western suburbs, ensuring we can continue to care for our growing communities.
Construction has commenced and be completed in late 2012.
