Western Health was allocated $40.56 million in the 2008/09 State Budget to construct a new radiotherapy facility in the West.
Radiotherapy Facility Fast Facts
- A new public radiotherapy facility will be the first in Melbourne's West, reducing the need for patients to have to travel to East Melbourne or Geelong for radiotherapy treatment.
- Up to 900 patients per year will be treated when the facility becomes fully operational.
- These new services will be provided in conjunction with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
- Capital costs are $40.56 million with the facility providing four bunkers, two of which will house linear accelerators. A further two linear accelerators will come online in the future to meet a growing demand.
- Construction commenced in October 2009 and will be completed in November 2010. The Radiotherapy Facility will become operational in 2011.
