To enable and facilitate the you the Refresher Program participant to update and refresh your clinical nursing knowledge in a supported environment, to ease your entry back into acute and subacute nursing
The Western Health Refresher Program is a 6 week fixed term program, consisting of study days; work sheets, competencies, clinical practice and self-directed learning. The program commences on Monday 4th June, 2018.
It will run from Monday-Thursday, 08:00– 16:30 for two weeks and Monday-Friday the next four weeks are in the ward/unit, at 32 hours per week, AM shifts 07:00 – 15:30 or PM 13:00 – 21:30
You will be allocated to one ward/unit for the duration of the program, utilising the preceptorship model for clinical supervision. You will be allocated a preceptor from the same ward/unit who will act as a preceptor. Clinical Nurse Educators and the Refresher Program Coordinator will support you and your preceptor throughout the entire program. You preceptors will work closely with you to assist in meeting your clinical objectives and will directly and indirectly supervise clinical shifts.
Two weeks induction program, including four classroom based study days and four clinical based days working in a supernumerary capacity on a ward.(unpaid)
Two weeks of a ‘transitional workload’ working towards managing a full patient load, under direct supervision.(paid)
