Before you start

The documentation sent to you with your offer of employment contains material to help you start to find your way around. The staff handbook contains "signposts" to a range of information that new staff need to be aware of. Other information, like salary rates and employment agreements are available on the internet "careers" pages.

Once you start

The Western Health intranet is the best place to find a wide range of dynamic information (ie information which is regularly updated, like general or clinical procedures, salary rates and employment awards and agreements.) We do not provide print based copy of such material to ensure that staff only refer to the most up to date version.

New staff can access the intranet once their employee computer access is enabled. Normally this is on the first day at work.

Orientation

Western Health provides both organisational and local orientation.

Local (departmental/ward/unit) Orientation is provided by the Department  Manager on commencement.

Organisational Orientation - Western Health runs a formal half-day Orientation Workshop (whole day for Nurses/Midwives) on a fortnightly basis. Details of the Organisational Orientation are sent out with employment contracts. Below are maps detailing where the organisational Orientation sessions are held at each campus.

Car Parking

Parking on your first day is available in our public car parks at Sunshine and Western Hospital for a cost of $4.00 per day. Free on-street parking is available at Williamstown Hospital and both Nursing Homes.
