The General Surgery units are staffed by 17 visiting surgeons, an Upper GI&HPB Surgery Fellow, Fellow in Colo-Rectal, Endocrine and General Surgery Fellow, 13 College Appointed and 7 hospital appointed registrars/SHMOs. Registrars rotate through General Breast and Endocrine, Upper GI, Colorectal, Williamstown General and Sunshine General Surgery. Operating theatres are sited at all three campuses of the network (Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown) and senior registrars are rotated to Goulburn Valley, Werribee Mercy and Western Private hospitals.The department has the following positions available in 2016:Upper GI and HPB Surgery Fellow – 1 position - suitable for a senior trainee who wants to take responsibility for direct patient care and for the supervision and development of junior colleagues.

The major cases are all completed at the Footscray Campus.The role of the Fellow is to provide leadership to the Junior Medical Staff and assists in the coordination of education and training, and the dissemination of information relating to Western Health and the RACS, in addition to his or her clinical duties. The Upper GI & HPB Fellow represents JMS interests by acting as a representative on committees such as the JMS Operations Management Committee, the JMS Post Graduate Medical Education Committee, Adverse Outcomes Committee and other relevant working parties. The Fellow is expected to be involved in the receiving roster with the Consultants back up.The successful applicant will also participates in the recruitment and interviewing of HMO applicants for the following year and assists in assigning appropriate rotations.

The General Internal Medicine Unit at the Footscray Hospital, is a busy service admitting about 2400 patients a year with a wide range of medical problems.
The unit staffing includes General Physicians with a wide range of subspecialty interests. The Unit has a research interest in application of evidence based medicine to real life practice. In addition the individual Specialists have a range of personal research interests.
Chief Medical Registrar - 1 x Position
The role of the Chief Medical Registrar is to provide leadership and support to the Junior Medical Staff (JMS), including in particular the Basic Physician Trainees. They will assist the Senior Staff in providing excellence in Clinical Care and administration of the Service. Assistance in the coordination of education and training, and the dissemination of information, in addition to his/her clinical duties are some of the other requirements whilst fulfilling this role.
The Chief Medical Registrar represents JMS interests by acting as a representative on committees such as the JMS Operations Management Committee and the JMS Post Graduate Medical Education Committee. The Chief Medical Registrar also participates in the recruitment and interviewing of HMO applicants for the following year. They are also required to assist with the review of application received from the Medical Students for an internship placement at WH in the following year.
There are opportunities including projects for candidates training in General Medicine or in dual training in general Medicine and Subspecialty medicine.

This position is based at Sunshine Hospital and the successful applicant will provide leadership and support to junior medical staff of the general medical units (predominantly basic physician trainees). Sunshine Hospital admits over 2,200 patients a year, has a formal relationship with the Obstetric Medicine Service and Outpatients clinic.
