Description

The Department is a very busy subspecialty Unit of Western Health that performs clinical, research and teaching within the organisation. At a clinical level the Department admits approximately 1300 inpatients per annum and manages a 5 bed non-invasive ventilation unit. In addition there are significant numbers of inpatient consultations and the Department runs General Respiratory Outpatient clinic, Sleep Disorders Outpatient clinic, Migrant Screening Outpatient clinics and is involved with the Obesity Service. The Sleep Disorders Unit performs approximately 1900 sleep studies per annum and these include both in laboratory and in the home studies. The Respiratory Function Laboratory performs a complete range of tests. Research opportunities in sleep and general respiratory medicine abound within the department. The department is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical and paramedical/Allied health education.
The department has the following positions available in 2009.

Fellow:  - 1 x position is available for a Fellow to help manage the Migrant Screening outpatient clinics and perform research
                  into aspects of cardiovascular and sleep disorders interactions.
                  Direct Applications to this Health Service.

Registrars:  - 2 x positions are available for Advanced Training in Respiratory and Sleep Disorders Medicine.
                         Applications to be made via the RACP/TSANZ Central committee and to this Health Service.
