Chief Registrar General Surgery
Description

The General Surgery Unit is staffed by 17 visiting surgeons, a Chief Registrar, Fellow in General Surgery, Fellow in Colo-Rectal, 11 college appointed and 7 hospital appointed registrars/SHMOs. Registrars rotate through General Breast and Endocrine, Upper GI, Colo-Rectal, Williamstown General and Sunshine General and Plastics. Operating theatres are sited at all three campuses of the network (Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown) and senior registrars are rotated to Goulburn Valley, Werribee Mercy and Western Private hospitals.

The department has the following position available in 2011:

Chief Surgical Registrar - 1 x position.  Suitable for a senior trainee who wants to take responsibility for direct patient care and for the supervision and development of junior colleagues. The applicant will be based in the unit relevant to their surgical interest, but will assist in the running and staffing of the whole general surgical program.   

The role of the Chief Surgical Registrar is to provide leadership to the Junior Medical Staff and assists in the coordination of education and training, and the dissemination of information relating to Western Health and the RACS, in addition to his or her clinical duties. The Chief Surgical Registrar represents JMS interests by acting as a representative on committees such as the JMS Operations Management Committee, the JMS Post Graduate Medical Education Committee, Adverse Outcomes Committee and other relevant working parties. The Chief Surgical Registrar also participates in the recruitment and interviewing of interns and HMO applicants for the following year and assists in assigning appropriate rotations.

Medicine  

Senior Medical Registrar (Sunshine) 
Description

This position is based at Sunshine Hospital and the successful applicant will provide leadership and support to junior medical staff of the general medical units (predominantly basic physician trainees).

The department has the following position available in 2011 for 12 mths commencing on 7th February 2011:

Senior Medical Registrar - 1 x position  (2 x 6 mth rotations)

In addition to the above mentioned 12 mth position, there will be the availability for candidates in their 1st Year of Training (in 2011) for General Medicine to apply for the following:

 

CoOrdinated Advanced Training Program in General Medicine
(Alfred Health, Southern Health and Western Health)

Supported by Victorian Department of Health - August 2010

Applications are invited for 6 positions - 2 positions to be provided at each site across the 3 health care networks - for 1-3 years of advanced training in General Medicine  

Successful applicants will be provided with experience necessary to satisfy RACP advanced training rquirements in General Medicine with opportunities for rotations which may include:

Acute Medicine Unit
Respiratory Medicine
Cardiology (Metro)
Cardiology (Rural)
Trauma Medicine
Perioperative Medicine
Emergency Department Acute Medicine
Intensive Care

Applicants for >1 year of training will have the opportunity to arrange rotations in their 2nd/3rd Year of training that compliment those already gained.  Applicants who have completed core training in another subspecialty will be provided with 12 months of General Medical Training with the possibility of an additional 12 months as a junior consultant post-fellowship in order to achieve the highly regarded dual training in General Medicine and other subspecialty.

Chief Medical Registrar (Western Hospital, Footscray)
Description

Applications are sought from suitability qualified Advanced Trainees for the position of Chief Registrar - General Medicine. 
The General Internal Medicine Unit at Western Hospital, Footscray is a busy service admitting about 2400 patients a year with a wide range of medical problems.
.  
The unit staff includes General Physicians with a wide range of subspecialty interests.  The Unit has a research interest in application of evidence based medicine to real life practice.  In addition the individual Specialists have a range of personal research interests. 

The successful candidate will provide leadership and support to Junior Medical Staff including particularly the Basic Physician Trainees.  They will assist the Senior staff in providing excellence in Clinical Care and administration of the Service.  

There are opportunities including projects for candidates training in General Medicine or in dual training in general Medicine and Subspecialty medicine.
