We provide the opportunity to work in friendly and supportive team where your contribution to excellence in patient care is valued and recognised. The critical care service at Western Health offers three state of the art Cardiac Cath labs, two cardiac care units and two intensive care units.
Intensive Care Service
The Intensive Care Service at Western Health is currently providing care to over 1600 patients a year. Both the Footscray and Sunshine units are specifically designed and equipped to provide physiological monitoring and life supporting therapies to patients with a critical illness in an open, team-focused environment.
The ICU service has a high functioning, multi-disciplinary team that provides care to a mix of cardiac, general medical, general surgical and obstetric patients. Western Health is the only public Intensive Care Service located in the western suburbs of Melbourne. In order to ensure that we are providing best care, the department is actively engaged in clinical research activities. In addition to our orientation program, we offer extensive education and training opportunities to our senior staff as well as supporting junior nursing staff to obtain critical care qualifications in partnership with the University of Melbourne.
Cardiac Care Service
The Western Health Cardiology service includes an integrated Cardiac Care Unit and Cardiac Step-down ward at both the Footscray and Sunshine Campus. Both units provide care for patients with a variety of acute cardiac conditions. We work in conjunction with the Cardiac Cath Lab to provide expert care for patients with diagnostic and interventional procedures. The CCU provides the nursing support for the hospital Cardiac Arrest service on both the Sunshine and Footscray sites.
Cardiac Care has a dynamic group of staff that strive to provide excellent care to the patients in Melbourne's west, with a focus on staff development and clinical research to continue to provide best care to all our patients. The Cardiac Care units offer opportunities for ongoing development for critical care qualified staff as well as a supported learning pathway for junior nurses to develop their skills and undertake post graduate studies in partnership with La Trobe University.
Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Service
One of the busiest labs in Melbourne, the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory offers 24 hour on call service for Acute Myocardial Infarcts through both Emergency Departments and direct ambulance admission. The team work in conjunction with both the Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Units.
