The visitor guide role assists patients and visitors in way-finding around each site. The role is very much hands on and entails escorting patients and visitors to locate the department or area of the hospital that they need to find. The role is seen as one of the first points of contact for our community when coming into our hospitals and volunteers are encouraged to instigate a conversation with each of our visitors or patients to promote a friendly and supportive environment for them when visiting the hospital.
"I really enjoy my role as a visitor guide. I get to meet all sorts of different people, I get to keep fit with the walking around the hospital and every day is different. I really feel like I am helping out" Peter aged 54 years (volunteering for 6 months).
